FAQ
Q. Is there a minimum age for teletherapy?

Q. What if my child is younger than 5?
A. For younger children, sessions focus on parent coaching and play-based strategies you can use at home.
Q. Will I as the parent have to attend the sessions?
A. A parent or caregiver is always encouraged — and often required — to participate in sessions, especially with younger children.
Q. What matters more than age?
A. Teletherapy works best when a child can:
Q. When is teletherapy not recommended?
A. Teletherapy may not be the best fit if your child has:
Q. Can I learn strategies to help my child?
A. Absolutely! Through parent coaching, you’ll learn practical strategies you can use during everyday routines to support your child’s speech and communication. This approach can be especially helpful when teletherapy isn’t the best fit for your child at this time. Parent-coaching sessions are billed at the same rate as direct therapy sessions.
Q. What is required before therapy sessions begin?
A. These steps are completed prior to starting therapy:
Q. What will happen at my consultation?
A. Your free 10-minute consultation is a welcoming space to talk about your goals and any challenges you or your child may be experiencing. Together, we’ll decide whether online therapy at About Voice is the right fit. If another type of support would be more helpful, we’re happy to guide you toward other resources.
Q. What are your prices?
A. Prices for the initial evaluation and for each treatment session are as follows:
Speech Therapy Evaluation - $220
This evaluation examines speech function when there are concerns about speech sound production (articulation or phonological processes) or fluency (stuttering). The assessment helps identify strengths and areas of need so we can set meaningful goals and develop a therapy plan tailored to you or your child.
Speech Therapy Session (30 minutes) - $87
This therapy session supports individuals experiencing challenges with speech sound production (articulation or phonological processes) or fluency (stuttering). Therapy targets meaningful communication goals using techniques matched to your needs.
Q. What's the difference between articulation challenges and phonological processes?
A. Articulation issues happen when a child has trouble physically making a specific sound, like saying “wabbit” for “rabbit” because the /r/ sound is hard to produce. However, phonological processes are consistent error patterns in how a child uses sounds — for example saying “tee” for “tree” or “doat” for “goat.” These patterns often affect many sounds, not just one.
Q. Do you accept insurance?
A. About Voice is currently a private-pay practice. Payment is made directly by clients using cash or credit card.
In Wisconsin, speech-language pathologists are not permitted to accept private payment from clients who have Medicaid or Medicare coverage, even if they wish to pay out-of-pocket. If you or your child has Medicaid or Medicare benefits, we will be happy to help you find another provider who can support you.
While insurance is not billed directly, a Superbill (an itemized receipt for services) can be provided for you to submit to your insurance company to see whether out-of-network reimbursement is available. Coverage varies widely, so we encourage families to contact their insurance provider before beginning services to ask about out-of-network speech-therapy benefits.
HSA/FSA cards may be used, depending on your plan’s eligibility guidelines.
